About DJI Robomasters:
RoboMaster is an annual intercollegiate robot competition held in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China, founded and hosted by the drone tech giant DJI. The RoboMaster matches focus on the ability to apply and practise comprehensive knowledges in science and engineering disciplines, and require the participating members to fully integrate robotics disciplines such as machine vision, embedded system, mechanical engineering, inertial navigation and human–computer interaction, etc.

Sentry Robot
The Sentry robot is a fully autonomous defense system used in competition. This robot is dependent on machine learning and artificial intelligence used to predict how enemy robots are going to move. The movement data obtained by the machine learning software is then used to shoot the enemy robots. This robot moves in a rail sideways and has a double cannon shooting system. My job was to develop a drivetrain and suspension system for the robot, so it could move as efficiently as possible through the rail.
Development
In order to design the drivetrain system, I needed to do some research on the different motor, wheels, and materials that could be used in competition. Force and dynamics calculators were created to set a desired goal and look for any constraints. Sheet metal was used to create most of the drivetrain, and a system of motors and belts were used to make the robot move sideways. A sprung system was used in order to account for the deflection of the rail, and to avoid any efficiency losses while moving.
